Julie Wendt offers functional nutrition counseling that is rooted in a simple and compelling belief: the human body has powerful healing capacities that, when supported, can bring a person to his or her optimal state of health.Julie works closely with each client to support the diet and lifestyle recommendations from his or her doctor. Client support can include regular appointments to provide accountability, grocery store tours to help demystify healthy food choices, and cooking classes designed to make healthy eating delicious. A client-centered approach, coupled with nutrition information supported by the most recent research, enables Julie’s clients to pursue optimal health.

Julie’s journey with health began at Cornell University, where she studied Resource Economics. She was interested in understanding the drivers of people’s actions and choices, many of which seemed to be in conflict with their personal well-being—and that of the planet’s. Her interest in health extended to the role of food as medicine during her first pregnancy and then with her first child. Her colicky newborn graphically illustrated the concept that what you eat can make a huge difference in how you feel and what your body can tolerate. Julie went on to have two more children, and with each new family member the message became more clear: food matters! After serving as her family’s nutritionist for over a decade, Julie decided to combine her passion for food, gift for healing and desire to help others through nutrition. She looks forward to sharing her clients’ journeys as she helps them optimize health through changes in diet and lifestyle.

Julie holds a B.S. in Resource Economics from Cornell University and a Masters of Science in Integrative Health and Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health. She is a Licensed Dietician Nutritionist (LDN) in Maryland, a Licensed Nutritionist (LN) in D.C., and a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS).
“I don’t know the words to express my deep gratitude to you, Dr. Kogan, and clinic staff. All I can say is thank you for helping me feel like a human being again. Over the decades, I put forth my best effort to endure. I am glad I didn’t give up because my journey led me to all of you.” E.L., Baltimore, MD. June 2018
