Note for Caregivers
If you are reading this for someone you love, thank you. Caring for someone with memory changes takes courage, patience, and a lot of heart. The ReCODE program includes you. You will be part of the team from the very beginning. We offer weekly support groups just for caregivers. We hold open meetings every few months so you can ask questions and hear the latest updates. Our coordinator, Hannah Fine, is always available to help you navigate the program. You are not doing this alone — and neither is the person you care for. Please reach out to us at hfine@gwcim.com or call 202-833-5055.
DEFINITION
What is ReCODE program for Memory Loss?
ReCODE stands for Reversal of Cognitive Decline.
It is a program for people who are having memory problems or early signs of Alzheimer's disease.
The program was created by Dr. Dale Bredesen, a brain health expert. It is used by certified doctors around the world.
The goal is simple: to slow down, stop, or even improve memory problems.
This is not a single pill or a quick fix. It is a careful, step-by-step plan made just for you. It looks at what is happening in your body and your brain — and works to change things for the better.
What Is the PreCODE Program?
PreCODE is a sister program. It is for people who do not yet have memory problems but want to protect their brain.
PreCODE is a lighter program. It still includes testing and a personal plan. But it is less intensive than ReCODE.
If you are worried about your memory but have not yet been diagnosed, PreCODE may be right for you.
To learn more, schedule a visit with Dr. Mikhail Kogan.
The ReCODE program is for people who:
- Have been told they have early Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairment
- Are noticing memory changes and want answers
- Want a thorough, science-based approach — not just medication management
- Are ready to make lifestyle changes with support
- Have a family member or caregiver who can help them participate

ADVANTAGE
Why Choose GWCIM for ReCODE?
Our team is certified to deliver the ReCODE program through Apollo Health, the organization that trains and supports ReCODE providers worldwide.
We have a full team dedicated to this program. You will not see just one doctor. You will work with doctors, a health coach, a psychotherapist, and a care coordinator — all working together on your behalf.
We also hold weekly support groups and quarterly open house meetings where you and your family can hear from the whole team, ask questions, and stay up to date.
APPROACH
How Does the Program Work?
The ReCODE program has a few stages. Here is what to expect:
Step 1 — A Screening Call You start with a short phone call with our care coordinator, Hannah Fine. She will answer your questions and see if the program is a good fit.
Step 2 — Initial Visits You will meet with several members of our team. These visits take a few weeks to complete. We want to understand your health from many angles before we build your plan.
Step 3 — Lab Tests You will have blood tests and other health checks. Some can be done at home. These tests help us understand what is happening in your body.
Step 4 — Your Personal Plan After the visits and tests, we create a plan made just for you. It may include changes to what you eat, how you sleep, how you exercise, and which supplements you take.
Step 5 — Ongoing Support You will have regular check-ins with the team. We offer both in-person and video appointments. Our coordinator handles the scheduling for you.
Find the Cause aka Driver
We look for what is causing the memory problems — things like inflammation, sleep issues, vitamin deficiencies, or exposure to toxins.
Small Steps Add Up
Lifestyle changes — sleep, food, exercise, stress — have a real effect on the brain. We help you make changes one step at a time.
You Are Not Alone
This program works best when you have the support of doctors, coaches, friends, peers, and family

The ReCODE™ protocol was developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen, a neurologist and internationally recognized researcher in neurodegenerative disease at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. His landmark work, including the book The End of Alzheimer's, challenged the long-held assumption that Alzheimer's disease is irreversible and introduced the concept that cognitive decline has multiple, addressable root causes — what he calls "subtypes" of Alzheimer's. By identifying and correcting these individual drivers through personalized lifestyle, nutritional, hormonal, and environmental interventions, many patients in Dr. Bredesen's research and clinical practice have experienced measurable cognitive improvement.
Apollo Health, the organization Dr. Bredesen co-founded, trains and certifies physicians and health coaches to deliver the ReCODE™ protocol with fidelity. While GWCIM operates independently of Apollo Health, our team is fully certified through Apollo, and we recommend that participants consider joining Apollo Health to access additional benefits, including regular virtual sessions with Dr. Bredesen himself.
FAQ
Common Questions
The ReCODE™ program is designed for individuals who are experiencing early-stage Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, or noticeable memory and cognitive changes. Eligibility is determined through the initial assessment process with Dr. Kogan and the ReCODE team, which reviews your health history, lab results, and cognitive testing.
ReCODE™ is designed for individuals already experiencing cognitive decline and aims to reverse it. PreCODE is designed for individuals who are at risk — due to genetics, family history, or lifestyle factors — but are not yet symptomatic. PreCODE is less intensive and focuses on prevention through early lifestyle and biological intervention. Dr. Kogan can help you determine which program is right for you.
Participants should expect to dedicate approximately 2–4 hours daily to program activities, which may include cognitive training exercises, physical exercise, meal preparation, and supplement management. A committed support person — such as a family member or caregiver — is an important part of the program and will be paired with each participant.
No, you do not need to join Apollo Health to participate in the ReCODE™ program at GWCIM. However, we recommend it. Apollo Health membership provides access to regular virtual sessions with Dr. Bredesen, the Apollo Report, and a broader network of resources and community support.
GWCIM is a cash-based practice and does not accept insurance or submit claims on behalf of patients. However, we provide a superbill with service codes that you may submit to your insurance independently. Most GWCIM services are not covered by standard insurance plans. Third-party services such as dental work, mold programs, and certain lab tests are billed directly by those providers.
In some cases, the initial assessment reveals that mold toxicity or dental issues are contributing to cognitive symptoms and must be addressed as part of the program. GWCIM works with affiliated and recommended specialists — including Dr. Johan Yakel for CIRS and mold, and affiliated dental providers — to coordinate these additional interventions. Associated costs are billed separately by those providers.
Hannah Fine, GWCIM's ReCODE Program and Care Coordinator, is your primary point of contact. She guides participants from the initial eligibility screening through the full duration of the program — scheduling appointments, answering questions, and providing ongoing support. Hannah can be reached at hfine@gwcim.com.
